More Guacamelee!
is better Guacamelee! After a spectacular debut on PlayStation 3 and
the Vita, the PC version of this excellent and colorful supernatural
platformer piles it on with the Gold Edition, a package that bundles
together the fantastic original game with the two DLC packs. It retains
that amazing core platforming experience, playable on either a keyboard
or a controller (but seriously, use a controller), while also addressing
one of my few complaints about the PlayStation Network version in my original review: it left me wanting more.
Bashing ghostly enemies as Juan the undead luchador is so damn fun I
wanted it to last longer – and The Devil’s Playground DLC in particular
partially gives it a boost of an extra hour or two. Additionally,
Guacamelee! Gold Edition includes a tool that allows for fully
customizable character skins that you can create, with a little
know-how. (Take a look at the trailer embedded above for more.) It’s a
complicated endeavor, one that I couldn’t possibly replicate with any
success, but it opens things up for those more intimately tuned-in with
their artistic and technical sides can make all sorts of cool character
skins in lieu of playing as Juan, and then share them with the rest of
us.
